The Background:
The story behind SheWell
The inception of SheWell arose from a profound realization during my early twenties. Observing the struggles of my female friends and relatives, many of whom were grappling with breast-related issues at a surprisingly young age. I realized that, not just in my local community but also throughout the world, there was a widespread lack of knowledge and lack of understanding about women's health.
The Problem:
The knowledge gap
of breast issue
Our research shows that over 3 million women have breast cancer, with higher risks starting at age 19. More than 40 million women lack healthcare, highlighting a need for specialized support during key life stages like menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause. Despite this, the existing market clearly lacks focused marketing and advertising for these specific demands. The majority of nutritional advice is broad and ignores the specifics needed for women's health.
The Solution:
A women wellness app
SheWell, a women's wellness app, focuses on breast disease prevention and overall well-being by offering tailored nutrition plans and tools to track dietary habits, empowering women to lead healthier, disease-resistant lives.

We reviewed many literature to identify effective ways for women to improve their breast health. Our findings indicate a strong link between diet and women's health, leading us to choose nutrition as a foundational focus. We selected this starting point because dietary changes are daily, manageable, and offer diverse options for enhancing health.

Market Research: Currently, there are no apps specifically focused on breast health prevention.
After deciding on a nutrition starting point, we began market research. We conducted research on existing competitive or inspiring products and services. Based on our market research findings, we have identified several strengths to incorporate and documented existing issues within the current app, aiming to address these shortcomings.

What did we learn?
To make our app better, we can narrow our focus to breast health issues among a specific age group of women. Additionally, insights from other apps suggest that enhancing user personalization and introducing innovative features, such as allowing users to scan their food to assess nutritional content, could be beneficial.
Initial User Research:
Users may use this app,
but daily habits could impact their diet.
For our initial user research, we conducted around 20 in-depth interviews with women aged 19-59 from different age groups, ethnic groups, and different job positions. Our questions were mainly divided into three categories: current health and diet status, diet awareness and health risk awareness, and past diet management effects. Although their answers varied, sadly they all conveyed the same message: They all wanted to better manage their eating habits, and they lacked the knowledge and information to do so. Moreover, their daily work and living habits will have an impact on a healthy diet.

Reflection & Takeaways
This was my first time designing an app entirely on my own, and the experience was tremendously meaningful. Throughout this process, I honed my design skills and usability testing abilities. This project equipped me to lead projects from concept to launch, blending creativity, problem-solving, and user empathy into a cohesive, impactful solution. My work on SheWell further solidified my commitment to creating inclusive spaces that make a meaningful difference during vulnerable moments.
And for the future, we're excited to bring tailored nutrition plans specifically designed for womenand those managing feminine health issues like PCOS and cervical cancer. Join us on this groundbreaking journey to wellness!
